There has been a great turn around to using natural products in the cosmetic industry. Aloe vera is widely used in our creams and lotions. Pharmaceutical cosmetic markets have moved away from synthetic ingredients and returned to natural botanicals whenever possible.

'Many cosmetic companies attempt to increase the sales of their products by claiming that they contain Aloe vera. Although these claims might be true....... Many of these products that claim to have Aloe in them have other toxic ingredients, making the presence or absence of Aloe irrelevant. Some of these toxins should be avoided.
To address the issue regarding products claiming to contain Aloe, Drs. Danhof and McAnalley conducted some studies to determine the actual content and effectiveness of various products. The results indicated that some products contained stabilised Aloe vera, some contained little or no Aloe vera, and some contained cytotoxic preservatives. They warned that "stabilised Aloe vera that is used on skin or in products intended for use on skin should be tested to show that its beneficial effects have been preserved" (Danhof Y& McAnalley, 1983, 110).'
